VANDITA VASA Personnage : Aditi Singh |
| Her character: Aditi Singh 19 y/o She’s punjabi and works in the same office as Rajiv. Actually, Rajiv helped her to obtain the job because he had a crush on her. She’s pretty, and the audience should think :what is this beautiful girl doing with this man ? She’s small and has a lively temperament, as Rajiv is cerebral, she’s heartful. She has a sad look when she’s alone, like those of the noble souls. Her voice is really special, a voice that one would recognize directly, like Rani Mukerji’s voice, perhaps she could have a voice which would be slightly higher. A voice which would inspire a sense of sweetness, revealing a refined person. She always wears a salwar kameez and works as a secretary in the government offices. |

INT. LATE AFTERNOON. LOCAL TRAIN. Aditi and Rajiv are standing in the train, hanging themselves. Behind them we can see outside. There’s a lot of people, and they are very close. Aditi : - « My father knows everything. The guy, after what happened yesterday, has gone to see my father today and has told him everything, pouring oil over the fire. Obviously, my father immediately came back home to see my mother ; desperate, my mother told him that she didn’t know anything. He said to my father that you are working in my office. That because of this I broke up with him, that I had a relationship with you at the same time as with him, and that I’m seeing you and that only yesterday I went to Mademoiselle Café with you, that he clearly saw you when you were talking with someone. Hence, you can imagine the reactions of my father ; he said to my mother that all this had to be watched closely, and that he didn’t want me to talk to you in the street. If by chance it was true, this story that I was having an affair. My mother said that she knew nothing about all this and that she has washed her hands off of it. My father said he would talk to me about it. So we are not allowed to meet for a while and from now on my little love has to write to his little Sweetheart and come to see her at the window, all right ? We can confirm the days and mark the time. For example, tomorrow you could pass by my street at seven thirty and I’ll be at my window to see you. Okay, my little love ? » |

INT. LATE AFTERNOON. GOVERNMENT OFFICE. It’s six o’clock, Aditi is in her office, the head and her colleague are leaving ; when she’s alone she takes a letter out, opens it and starts to read it : - « As for me… My love has passed… But I conserve for you an unaltered affection and I’ll never forget - never, believe-me - your gracious little silhouette and your little girl manners, neither your tenderness, nor your devotion, nor your loving nature. I would prefer not returning anything to you and keep all your small letters as a living memory of a dead past, like all the pasts, like a touching thing in a life, my life, where the progression of years goes along with the progression of unhappiness and disillusion. I ask you not to act as the vulgar people who are always shabby ; that you’ll never turn away your face when seeing me ; that you won’t keep a souvenir about me in which would enter rancor. In front of each other, let’s remain like two friends who loved a bit, when they were children, and who, even though they have, during their adult life, followed other routes and other loves, always keep in a corner of their soul, the deep memory of their old and futile love. » |

In Rajiv’s cabin, Rajiv reads : - « It’s still under
the grip of the painful impression that I send you these words. My
deepest fears didn’t fail me, I see I attached myself to one
of those beings who play with pure affection, and are able to give
themselves a hard time to torture the heart of poor young girls, by
arranging to court them not by feeling, not by hopeful sympathy, not
by interest, not even by greed, but only because they like to make
others suffer, make them ill-at-ease, or torture someone who didn’t
think of him before and didn’t even know him. |

retain this lesson. "We can see the corridor, then the view through
the window on the bookshops and the road. |
